We’re not going to lie to you. There’s no such thing as free solar.

Just like any other large purchase, you’ll have a few options:

1.) Pay in cash
2.) Lease/PPA (Power Purchase Agreement)
3.) Finance

So why do other solar companies claim to offer free solar? Well, they’re telling you a “half truth.”

Many solar companies go through lenders that offer $0 down and 0% interest solar energy loans. Depending on your credit score and income, your monthly payment can be on the higher side, or it can be on the lower side. The biggest factor however, is who you’re getting your solar through. Your solar provider can hike up the price of your system for their own benefit just for the sake of getting more commission from the solar loan.

So in reality, you’re taking out a loan and paying that instead of your energy company.

So what’s the good news?

The good news is that there are still some quality solar companies out there who:

a) Won’t be greedy & overcharge you
b) Will set up a system with enough power so you’ll never have a true-up bill
c) Make sure your bill is decently lower than your previous energy bill

The best part about all of this is, when you’re ready to sell your home, your solar loan gets transferred to the next homeowner.
