Over the years, solar energy has been the topic of discussion for not only the country, but for the world. Once an expensive commodity, it has now become accepted and integrated into countless communities. The more accessible solar energy became, the more hot a topic it became. Is it still a hot topic in 2022? It sure is. Let’s talk about why solar is just beginning to ramp up.

First and most important, solar is favorable because it has great environmental value. It directly affects the amount of pollution that is generated. Solar technology does not produce pollution while operating, while other power plants constantly distribute pollutants through the air.
This alone is a big factor when considering widespread use of solar energy. If the population can agree on using green energy solutions, future generations would have less health problems, the environment would suffer far less, and we’d be one step closer to protecting (and repairing) the only home we have.
Low Cost
As the years have gone by, solar energy has reduced in price dramatically. As such, the upfront costs in order to acquire solar energy has fallen close to, if not all the way, to $0. Government programs, special loans, and other incentives have made it extremely easy to purchase a solar energy system. With virtually no upfront costs and low payments, going solar seems like an obvious choice, so why isn’t it as widespread as it should be?
Energy Independence
Depending on your home setup, it is completely possible to become energy independent. Because of this, a lot of people are drawn to solar energy. The idea of having power when you need it, no matter what, is a nice one. Whether you are trying to go completely off the grid, or just have a backup for when the grid goes down, solar energy makes perfect sense.
Not everyone understands solar energy
A common argument that is heard when discussing solar alternative energy is that it will take away jobs from workers in the oil and gas industry.
No matter what happens, almost every product made uses oil in its production. Even solar panels need oil in order to be manufactured. This alone should create a sense of job security in the oil industry. In the cases where oil industry workers do need to switch jobs, there are positions in green energy fields that are directly related to what the workers were previously doing.
Another reason why solar energy gets a negative view is because of the shady nature of door-to-door salespeople that try to sell it neighborhood by neighborhood. The very fact that they are trying to sell solar unsolicited is enough to be off putting. This is why the general public needs to be readily informed of the benefits from reliable sources instead of someone that’s trying to make a quick buck at their door.
